Maryland homebirth families and advocates rallied in Annapolis before the House of Delegates' health committee held a hearing on HB 1056 to License CPMs in 2012. Photos of the event can be found here.
Legislation continues to be introduced by the Board of Medicine, Board of Nursing and Dept of Health is standing in the way of all homebirth midwives receiving a license to practice just as Virginia does. If neighboring states can license Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs), then so can Maryland!
We are fortunate to have midwives serving Maryland and surrounding states with prenatal care, birth services and postpartum care in the home. There are organizations working hard to create more options for parents who want to give birth at home in our area.
